The National Football League is not allowed to disclose details, when players fail drug tests. It is just reported that certain individuals have violated anti-doping program. But the League must not report which substances have been used by these athletes. Thus, several football players cheat about medications that have led to positives.
Why do several football players choose to lie about preparations that have been taken by them? Let try to understand.
Numerous football players who fail drug tests claim that they have used Adderall. In fact, they have applied steroids. Why do they say that they have tested positive for Adderall? What does Adderall represent? This is a product which is applied to treat attention-deficit disorder. But this drug is applied not only for this clinical purpose. Sportspersons and bodybuilders administer this drug for performance-enhancing effects.
As for steroids, they are widely blamed. Many journalists, experts, anti-doping officers and ordinary people say that these medicines are very dangerous. They may lead to different severe side effects. Steroids are blamed even for some crimes. But as for Adderall, this medication is not blamed in the society. Thus, a lot of football players try to avoid criticism. They don’t want to be demonized for usage of such prohibited medications, as anabolic steroids. Since consumers of Adderall are not criticized harshly, football players claim that they have failed drug tests because they have taken Adderall.
A football player compared this situation with following cases: those that are busted with cocaine tell others that they have administered marijuana because cocaine is more harshly blamed than the last one.
You should not suggest that each football player that says that he has tested positive for Adderall has actually taken anabolic steroids. But it is possible to claim that those that take Adderall are less blamed than those who use steroids.
