It is strange that Belarusian shot putter has tested positive for metenolone

The Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk won the 2012 Olympic gold medal. But she lost the medal because she was caught using the anabolic steroid metenolone (methenolone). She was asked to provide two samples. The substance metenolone was found in both urine samples.
If you read news linked with doping, you must know that professional sportspeople and bodybuilders are usually caught using other steroids and/or doping products. But when it comes to Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she tested positive for metenolone. It is unusual, according to statements of anti-doping officers. What does this forbidden medication represent? Why don’t athletes ordinarily take this product for enhancement of performance?
Metenolone is an anabolic steroid. It has weak androgenic properties. It acts like testosterone, enhancing muscle mass and adding energy.
However this steroid has only mild androgenic nature, it causes development of sex male characteristics in females. Females who use this medication may face typical virilizing effects: the voice becomes deeper; hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This anabolic steroid may be administered orally or through injections.
Metenolone (Methenolone) produces amazing effects, when it is administered by sportspersons during their workouts. It is not taken during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is used just on the day of a competition.
It is also confirmed that it is easy to catch those that apply this steroid.
Undesirable results of Metenolone (Methenolone) depend on measures that are applied. They are following: water retention, elevated calcium level in the blood, bone growth, hirsutism, acne, hair loss, menstrual abnormalities, increased sex drive, etc.
Thus, when you see a female athlete who has deep voice and excessive hair growth on the body, you may accuse her of doping. Actually, it is wrong because these troubles may appear also in those women that don’t administer any steroids. But sometimes these effects demonstrate that certain women apply medicines which have androgenic properties.
